An Historical with Edge...

Buy The Blind Cupid HERE!

By Karyn Gerrard
This is my first Edge story with Decadent Publishing, and it is the perfect length for sticking my toe in the erotica arena.

The Blind Cupid title has a few meanings, but the most prominent is that it’s a name for my fictional brothel. The story takes place in 1897 London and concerns a young male prostitute, Desmond Glover.

How did I get the idea for this story? I love all things historical; the Victorian Era in particular fascinates me with its thin veneer of society. Underneath that facade was a seamy underbelly of vice. There was one female prostitute for every four men in the city of London, just to give an example.

I was researching male prostitutes of the era when I came across The Cleveland Street Scandal. It made big news in 1889. The telegraph office on Cleveland Street turned out to be a male brothel frequented by many members of the aristocracy including Queen Victoria’s own grandson. The idea took root, what if my hero was one of the telegraph boys? It gave Desmond a salacious and heartbreaking background.

This premise and setting intrigued me so much I have written more surrounding this brothel. I was just offered a contract for THE GOVERNESS AND THE BEAST from Decadent Publishing, a prequel to this short story, The Blind Cupid. It is a novella. I also just completed THE COPPER AND THE MADAM, which picks up where The Blind Cupid short story leaves off. It is also novella length(Desmond makes an appearance!) and I hope to submit that sometime early next year.
Who knew that reading of a Victorian era scandal would spawn three stories? So glad it did!

THE BLIND CUPID
Anne Sommer, a spinster firmly on the shelf, does the unthinkable. She hires a man to give her pleasure for one night. Anne wants the erotic memories to keep her company in the lonely years ahead. She did not expect the young man who showed up at her door to move her in ways she never imagined.

Desmond Glover gives pleasure---for a price. An orphan whose childhood was mired in scandal and poverty, Desmond has learned to close off his emotions with regard to his occupation. He did not count on a lonely spinster to awaken his hidden passion.

Not only do the years separate them, but their social standings. Can Anne and Desmond cross such a chasm and find mutual desire---or love?
