Fangirl Feels!

by Olivia Starke

I admit it, I’m a fangirl. More precisely I’m SuperWhoLock, meaning I fangirl over Supernatural, Doctor Who, and the BBC’s series Sherlock. I admit it’s a crazy mix of Young Adult, a children’s show, and adult drama. But it’s not such a crazy mix we don’t have our fair share of SuperWhoLock memes on Pinterest, if you’re a fangirl chances are somewhere others will have your exact obsessions.

Today I thought I’d share with you the CW’s Supernatural in hopes of converting others to the dark side of TV obsession (Wednesday 8 pm Central!) Be grateful I didn’t get started on my absolute fixation on everything Doctor Who, Whovians are truly a mad lot to fall in with.

Okay ladies and gentlemen meet the Winchesters. Six foot four Sam Winchester, the younger brother at top, the fandom’s Nerd and all around sensitive brainiac. Bottom is six foot tall Dean Winchester, the alpha jock and BAMF. Both eye candy to the extreme, fighting evil demons, witches, werewolves, vamps and various other baddies while dealing with their co-dependency and Dean’s outside bromances.

For a brief interlude here’s a youtube video of Dean aka Jensen Ackles lip syncing Eye Of The Tiger. Pretty fantastic stuff.

Through the years they’ve rehashed old plots over and over, but that’s the beauty of Fandom—ya Just. Don’t. Care. You’ll hang on to that bloody show until the bitter end. Then beyond (ask any Firefly fan—but honestly its epicness never got a fair shake.) And god forbid it’s cancelled, you’ll rally around it in manic loyalty (again, see Firefly.)

I spent the first several seasons lusting after these two hotties trying to decide if I’d prefer tall babies or pretty babies, but then they introduced Castiel. An awkward angel cast down from Heaven. He was only supposed to be on for a few shows after he saved Dean from Hell. Fans fell in love with his humorous misunderstanding of human existence, not to mention his bad ass powers, so he’s stuck around a few years. And he’s HAWT! Let’s face it, who DOESN’T want to corrupt a Misha Collins angel six ways to Sunday? Below is his first appearance in the show, black shadow wings and all, rating in my top five of awesome entrances by a new character.

Well technically he sort of entered earlier on when he burned the eyes out of a psychic when she called on him. But that’s what you get for looking upon an angel in its ethereal form.

Every true fangirl of Supernatural will tear up every time we hear the song Carry On My Wayward Son by Kansas. And we’ll sing our hearts out to it while running flashbacks in our minds of Dean and Sam’s life trials, weeping when the brothers are separated during the season finale. Then again during the season premier when the song is used to run through more flashbacks of the two brothers being separated either by women, Hell, Purgatory, or whatever else the writers want to torture us with.
The fandom around this show can verge on creepy i.e. fan fic involving Wincest, and don’t even get me started on the Magical Healing Penis or the fascination with Sam’s giant hands. Yeah, still wish I hadn’t stumbled into that quagmire of yikes 0_o
So here’s a mad minute explanation of Supernatural. I invite everyone to hop on board and join this awesome fandom!

Maddie takes a weekend camping trip to forget her two timing ex-boyfriend. Instead of peace and quiet, she stumbles upon two hunks who put the wild in wilderness. And they have plans of their own—to heat up her sexless life. An evening of rowdy lovin’ is just what she needs to get over her broken heart.
When she joins them in a trio that leaves her satisfied and exhausted, they have one more surprise in store called Midnight Madness...

  1. Fantastic post, Olivia! I agree with everything you say. I am obsessed with Supernatural, too. I'm a Sam girl, but of course I wouldn't say no to Dean. And I'd totally like to be the filling in a Winchester sandwich ;) Looooove those boys. And Cas, too. "The voice says I'm almost out of minutes." LOL. :D
