A Rail Tail to Remember…

Buy Love on the Line HERE!

By J.M. Madden

I have a confession.

I love trains.

Not metal toy trains. No, big, ground-rumbling, penny-smashing monsters that cross the country hauling people and goods. I think I became fascinated when I lived in Florida as a kid, and there was a track just a few hundred yards away from our house. My sister and I would be down there all the time, hiding in the bushes and holding on as the big cargo train flew by, smashing whatever we had put on the tracks. I guess I should be thankful that none of those rocks or coins actually caused any damage. I still have some of those coins.

Then, in high school and again a few years later, I traveled to Germany where they were the primary mode of transportation. I loved riding them; actually went out of my way to utilize them as I navigated the country. That was long before I started my writing career, but I think in the back of my mind I’ve always wanted to use them somewhere.

Hence, Love On The Line, which releases TODAY!!! This story is a lot sexier than what I normally write. Actually, let me rephrase that. I write sexy, but this is the first story I’ve written that the hero and heroine don’t end up together in the end. I’m used to writing happy endings and it was a little bit difficult for me not to do that with these two. They were left in a sexy, happy-for-now. Don’t worry, though, because book 2 of the series will leave them in a better place.

Have you ever ridden a train? Either Amtrak or something similar? (My husband is in Japan right now, and just told me about riding the Bullet train, which runs 160 mph. Uh, no thank you.)

One lucky comment will win a copy of Love on the Line. If you haven’t ridden, that’s fine too, just be sure to leave your email to be entered for the book.

Thanks for stopping!

  1. I love trains, but I don't think I could or would ride the bullet train. That just goes too fast for me. I did go on the Murder Mystery train ride. It was fantastic. I'd love to go on another one.
Congrats on the new release. It sounds fantastic. Can't wait to read it.

  2. Thanks Joanne! Where is the murder mystery ride? That sounds interesting.
Well, hubby didn't have a choice about the Bullet train. He was on a very tight schedule and it just wasn't feasible to drive. He said it was surprisingly smooth, though. I don't know. If something is going that fast I want to be driving it!

  3. My dad used to take us to the train station every Sunday to watch the trains. He is a big train collector.

  4. Sounds like an awesome story! When I was a teen, I used to take the train to visit my boyfriend (at the time) who lived in a different city.

    All the best!

  6. Hi Laura! That sounds like a lot of fun for a kid to do with her dad. My step dad used to collect them too.
Jessica, thanks for stopping. Must have been a good boyfriend to travel that far, huh?
Elizabeth, you should. Amtrak runs weekend trips out of a city just above us on the Ohio river and up to New York. I told my husband I'm going to surprise him with tickets one weekend, but I don't think he believes me. You might check their schedules and stops. You may be surprised how close they are! Thanks so much for stopping!

  7. I think trains are neat. My Dad has a nice collection of train puzzles. I've ridden a train before, it was a sightseeing train, Ride the Hocking. We went through some nice terrain of fall foliage. It was a short 20 minute ride. I'm not sure I'd want to ride that bullet train either. Maybe if I was blindfolded and couldn't see anything.

  8. I think there should be a name like The Mile High club for train romance. I'm planning to bring the hubs with me to EPICON next year, and I'd like to take the Sunset Limited up the coast. Love trains, anytime, but I think it could be very romantic!

  9. Love the train track photo, couldn't have taken it better myself... (oh, wait, I'm Tkrain, that's mine!) :)

My one and only time on the train was actually tragic. My brother and I were on an Amtrak going to visit my grandparents, and some idiot in a hay truck thought he could beat the train and stalled the rig on the tracks. The engineer and fireman were obliterated by the truck. All I really remember was being thrown forward a LOT (I got a black eye, lucky!) and my brother being thrown more (he got a broken arm, less lucky). Then a lurch and a few seconds later the windows being ripped off the train by the hay as it plowed through the truck. Fortunately, it didn't derail, and the only deaths were as I mentioned before, in the engine.

Might be interesting to see a romance on a train, since for me, it's represented something else for 30 years.

  10. I haven't ever rode a train...but would love too. I'm really hoping they will put in a light rail system that would eliminate most of my 50 mile commute....would love that. This book sounds really good...added to my tbr.
